Learn How to Grow Lavender with Our Free Online Course

Lavender is a beautiful addition to a garden, but growing it successfully can be a little more complicated than simply planting it in a sunny spot and hoping for the best. Over the years, we have learned that many of the problems people experience with lavender begin before the plant ever goes into the ground.

That is why we created our new free online course, Beginner’s Guide to Growing Lavender. It is designed to help new lavender growers better understand what these plants need and make more informed decisions from the beginning.

We have been growing lavender at Copper Knoll Farms for six years, and during that time we have experienced successes, setbacks, difficult growing seasons, and plenty of lessons learned along the way. This course brings together practical information based on our experience growing lavender here in New Jersey.

What Does the Course Cover?

The course introduces the main topics every beginner should understand before planting and caring for lavender. We discuss choosing lavender varieties, evaluating a potential planting location, understanding sunlight and drainage, preparing the soil, and planting correctly.

The course also touches on watering, weed control, airflow, trimming young plants, pruning established lavender, and seasonal care. You will also learn about harvesting lavender, possible uses for your trimmings, a few of our favorite growing tools, and other considerations that can help you care for your plants over time.

Rather than simply telling you what to do, we also explain why certain growing practices matter. Understanding the reasoning behind each step can make it easier to adjust your care based on your own garden, soil, and climate.

Created for Beginner Lavender Growers

This course is especially helpful for anyone who is preparing to plant lavender for the first time, recently added lavender to their garden, or has struggled to keep lavender healthy in the past.

It can also help gardeners who are unsure which type of lavender they have, when their plants should be trimmed, why drainage is so important, or how to avoid some of the most common mistakes. The course is self-paced, so you can work through the information when it is convenient for you and return to the lessons as your plants grow.

Ask Questions About Your Own Plants

One of the features we are most excited about is the ability to leave comments and ask questions inside the course. Lavender does not grow under identical conditions in every garden, and sometimes general advice does not completely answer a question about a particular plant or planting area.

You are welcome to share questions and pictures of your own lavender as you work through the lessons. We also plan to update the course as we add new information and see which questions growers ask most often.

Why Are We Offering It for Free?

We frequently receive questions about growing lavender through social media, email, and conversations here at the farm. We wanted to create one place where beginners could find clear, practical guidance without having to sort through scattered posts or conflicting advice.

Our hope is that the course gives you a stronger foundation, helps you avoid preventable mistakes, and makes growing lavender feel less overwhelming. Whether you are planning your first lavender garden or trying to improve the plants you already have, we would love to have you join us.
