Foreign Objects in Firewood

Whether you cut your own or purchase firewood, it’s good to be aware of signs of foreign objects that can be inside of trees. If something is attached or next to a tree long enough, the tree will grow around it. This phenomenon is known as edaphoecotropism. Here’s some items you might find:
  • Screws
  • Nails
  • Barbed wire
  • Fence posts
  • Bullets
  • Tree steps
