What Makes Our Firewood Different?

What Makes Our Firewood Different?

When shopping for firewood, you might notice a wide range of prices and sources—from tree services to farm-based suppliers like us. At Copper Knoll Farms, we take great pride in offering high-quality, sustainably harvested firewood. But what sets our firewood apart from others on the market? Let’s take a closer look.

Understanding Tree Service Firewood

Tree services often offer firewood at a lower price, and for good reason. Their primary business is removing trees for homeowners, businesses, or municipalities. When a tree service is hired, they are paid:

  1. To cut the tree down.
  2. To haul the tree away.
  3. To process and sell the wood as firewood.

Since they are getting paid at multiple points in the process, they can offer their firewood at a lower cost. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this business model—it’s just different from how we operate.

Our Firewood: A Sustainable, Thoughtful Approach

At Copper Knoll Farms, we aren’t a tree service. Instead, our firewood comes from timber that we selectively harvest as part of a carefully managed forest plan. Every tree we cut serves a specific purpose, ensuring the long-term health of our woodland. We consider:

  • Size & Age – Older, overcrowded trees can hinder the growth of younger, healthier trees.
  • Health – We remove trees that are damaged or in decline to prevent disease spread.
  • Ecosystem Benefits – We select trees in a way that improves sunlight penetration, encourages new growth, and enhances overall forest biodiversity.

By choosing our firewood, you’re not just buying wood—you’re supporting sustainable forestry that helps maintain a thriving environment.

Precision-Cut Firewood for Convenience

Not all firewood is created equal. Many suppliers offer irregularly cut logs, making it difficult to stack and burn efficiently. We take extra care to ensure uniform sizing:

Standard Length: Our firewood is cut to 16-inch lengths to fit most wood stoves.
Perfect Fit: Each piece is split to no more than 5 inches in diameter (about the size of a man's fist), ensuring a consistent burn in smaller fireboxes.
Custom Orders: Need a different size? No problem! We custom-cut firewood to meet customer preferences. For example, one of our regular customers prefers 18-inch logs, and we happily accommodate his request.

Seasoned or Green? The Choice is Yours

We understand that firewood users have different needs, so we offer both:

  • Seasoned Firewood – Split and stacked for at least 12-18 months, this wood is ready to burn immediately.
  • Green Firewood – Freshly cut and split, perfect for those who prefer to season their own wood before burning.

Firewood Quantities to Fit Your Needs

Whether you need just a little firewood for a weekend camping trip or a full supply for the winter, we offer multiple quantity options to suit your needs. For occasional burning or outdoor fire pits, we have smaller bundles available. If you rely on firewood for heating, we offer larger quantities, including face cords (1/3 cord) and full cords. No matter the amount, you’ll receive the same high-quality, sustainably harvested firewood.

Pickup & Delivery Options

We make it easy to get high-quality firewood with both pickup and delivery options:

Pickup – Available for customers within 50 miles of Elmer, NJ (per NJ Department of Agriculture regulations to prevent pest and disease spread).

Delivery – We deliver within 20 miles of Elmer, NJ for an additional fee.

What Our Customers Are Saying

Don’t just take our word for it—here’s what our customers have to say about our firewood:

"This is our 3rd year purchasing firewood from Copper Knoll Farms. We have been using our open fireplace for 30 years and know properly seasoned and quality wood logs. Copper Knoll knows their firewood, too. These logs burn consistently hot and clean. We are happy, satisfied customers and will continue to only buy our firewood here." - L.W.

"The wood we purchased from Copper Knoll Farms was perfect for our wood stove. It lit easily and burned quite nicely. The delivery was prompt and the price was equal to other places we had looked. We have enjoyed Chester's videos also and have used the ash where he has suggested." - D.D.

"We have purchased firewood from Copper Knoll Farms for the past 2 winters and we couldn't be happier!! It was always a full cord, seasoned exactly as promised, cut to the size we wanted and delivered when promised. Having used multiple wood suppliers since 1980 I have experienced multiple headaches such as short cords, undesirable types of wood, and unfulfilled delivery dates so it has been refreshing to find Kim and Chester at Copper Knoll." - R.C.

"We had planned a back yard camp out for our kids but our own wood supply was wet. Our last minute purchase from Copper Knoll Farms was a huge success. The wood is clean and burns hot. It’s generously portioned for the price, and was perfectly dry resulting in an effortless, enjoyable campfire experience. We’ll be back for more!" - C.P.
