Bring a taste of the season into your kitchen with this simple, homemade Elderberry Jam. With just a few ingredients, you’ll create a rich, fruity spread that’s perfect on toast, swirled into yogurt, or added to your favorite recipes. Whether you’re using fresh or frozen elderberries, this easy recipe captures the pure goodness of the berries and the joy of making something delicious from scratch.
Ingredients:
- 16 ounces elderberries (fresh or frozen)
- 12 ounces sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Yield: About 20-24 ounces of jam
Instructions:
If using fresh elderberries, wash and dry them. If using frozen, thaw before starting.
- Place the berries in a pot and gently mash with a potato masher to release their juices.
-
Stir in the sugar and lemon juice.
-
Cook on low heat for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened and fragrant.
-
To test if it’s ready, place a small spoonful on a frozen plate and chill for 3 minutes. If it forms a light skin, it’s done. If not, simmer 5–10 minutes longer.
-
Ladle hot jam into sterilized jars. Refrigerate for regular use or process in a hot water bath for shelf-stable storage.
