How We Make Lavender Essential Oil

In this video, we invite you behind the scenes at Copper Knoll Farms to share our process for making pure lavender essential oil and hydrosol, straight from our fields to your home.

Every year we harvest the lavender at just the right moment to capture peak scent and oil content. These aromatic blooms are the heart of what makes our essential oil so special.

Once harvested, the lavender goes straight into our stainless still with copper innards, where the magic of steam distillation begins. In this process, steam gently rises through the lavender flowers, coaxing out the fragrant volatile oils without overheating or damaging their natural compounds.

As the steam escapes carrying those fragrant plant compounds, it travels through a cooling coil where it returns to liquid form. Because oil and water naturally separate due to their different densities, we’re then able to collect both the essential oil and the floral water, known as hydrosol.

Whether you’re curious about how essential oils are made, interested in artisanal farm production, or simply love lavender, this video gives you a real look at our craft here on the farm. After watching, you’ll better understand the care and tradition behind every drop of our lavender essential oil.
